Container Removals Sunshine Coast: Self-Pack Container Moving

Container removals on the Sunshine Coast let you move house or business without hiring a removalist by the hour or racing to empty a truck the same day. Bionic Storage delivers a secure shipping container to your door, you pack it at your own pace, and we transport it to your new address on our own trucks. It is the self-pack way to move: you handle the packing, we handle the transport. This page covers how a container move works, the sizes available, what the truck needs on site, how far we can take your container, and the suburbs we cover from our Landsborough base.

How Container Removals Work

A container move is simple, and it puts you in control of the timeline rather than a removalist’s clock.

First, we deliver a storage container in the size that suits your move and set it down on a clear, level spot with suitable access. Second, you pack it at your own pace, whether that takes an afternoon or a fortnight, and you lock it so you hold the only key. Third, when you are ready, you call us and we collect the container and deliver it to your new address, where you unpack at your leisure. If your dates do not line up, we can hold the packed container securely at our Landsborough yard in between and deliver it once you have the keys to the new place.

Because you pack the container once, where it sits in your driveway, your belongings are only handled a single time. There is no loading into a van, unloading at a depot and reloading at the other end. With a self-pack container move you only pay for the transport of the container and the container hire, so you skip the cost of a removal crew for the day.

What Is Included in a Container Removal

This is a self-pack service. Bionic Storage delivers and transports the container, but we do not provide removalist labour to load or unload your belongings. We may be able to recommend suitable third-party assistance if required.

In practice, that means we bring the container, set it down, come back for it when you are ready and drive it to the new address. The packing, loading and unloading is yours to do at your own pace, and that is exactly what keeps a self-pack move more affordable than a full-service removalist.

Why Move with a Container

Moving with a container suits anyone who would rather pack carefully over a few days than hand the whole job to a crew working against the clock. You decide how everything is wrapped, stacked and secured, and your gear stays inside a locked steel container the entire way, protected from rain, sun and dust.

It works especially well for longer moves, where a self-pack container is a practical alternative to a full-service interstate removalist. It also suits households and businesses that need a bit of flexibility on dates, because the container can be packed early, collected when it suits you, and even stored for a stretch if your new place is not ready. And it is a straightforward option for anyone who simply wants to do their own packing and keep the move affordable.

Container Removals Across the Sunshine Coast and Beyond

From our Landsborough base, just off the Bruce Highway, we deliver and collect containers right across the Sunshine Coast, including Caloundra, Maroochydore, Mooloolaba, Buderim, Noosa, Nambour, Coolum, Kawana and Kunda Park. Being central to the coast keeps delivery and collection quick and the transport cost sharp.

We are not limited to local moves. We transport packed containers anywhere from Mackay in the north to Newcastle in the south, and as far west as Charleville, which covers most self-pack moves in and out of South East Queensland and into northern New South Wales. Whether you are moving across town or interstate, the same local team looks after your container from pickup to drop-off. Heavy vehicle access and load limits on the day follow the National Heavy Vehicle Regulator rules, so a clear, level site with room for the truck keeps your delivery and pickup simple.

Our Own Trucks: Tilt Tray and Side Loader

One of the advantages of moving with Bionic is that we own and run the transport, rather than booking a third-party carrier. Our tilt tray and towing service operates out of the same Landsborough yard as the containers, so delivery, collection and the move are handled end to end by the one local team.

Our tilt trays have a carrying capacity of up to approximately 12 tonnes, subject to the total loaded weight, weight distribution, site access and applicable road limits, and they carry containers up to 20ft in length. We also operate a shipping container side loader, which lifts and sets down 20ft and 40ft containers from the driver’s side of the truck with no tilting. With a trailer attached, the side loader setup can move up to two 20ft containers at a time. Having both means we can match the truck to your site and get the container to the new address without your belongings being shifted around inside.

Container Sizes for Self-Pack Removals

We offer 10ft, 20ft and 40ft containers for self-pack removals, depending on the amount being moved, the total loaded weight and the access at both properties.

A 10ft container can be suitable for smaller moves, one-bedroom units, downsizing, partial household moves, office contents, or customers who do not require the space of a full 20ft container.

A 20ft container commonly suits the contents of a two to three bedroom home, depending on the amount of furniture and how efficiently the container is packed. It is the most common choice for a household move.

A 40ft container may suit larger family homes, larger business relocations, or customers moving a significant volume of furniture, equipment and boxed belongings. Suitability will depend on the total loaded weight and on whether there is sufficient side loader access at both the collection and the delivery address.

Whichever size you choose, pack it like you would a room, with heavier items low and to the front and everything secured against movement, and you can fit furniture, whitegoods, boxes and general household or business goods in the one load. If you have more to move than a single container holds, talk to us and we will work out the right number of containers or trips for the job.

What the Truck Needs on Site

Both of our trucks need room to work safely, and the access at each address decides which one we send.

Our shipping container side loader unloads from the driver’s side of the truck only. As a general guide, it needs:

  • approximately 20 metres of clear length
  • approximately 7 metres of total operating width, including the container
  • a driveway width of at least approximately 3 metres
  • firm, dry and reasonably level ground
  • sufficient clear space for the stabiliser legs to operate safely

Within those limits the side loader is very precise, and it sets the container down flat with no tilting, which is gentle on a packed load. It is worth knowing that a side loader is not automatically the answer for a narrow driveway or a tight site: it needs the room set out above to work safely.

Where a site is too tight for the side loader, one of our tilt trays may be the more suitable option. Our tilt trays can transport containers up to 20ft in length and cannot transport a 40ft container, so any 40ft move requires suitable side loader access at both the collection and the delivery address.

The simplest approach is to tell us the driveway width, the clear length available and the ground surface at both ends when you enquire. We will tell you which truck suits and what size container will realistically fit.

Container Removals or Mobile Storage: Which One

Container removals and mobile storage both start the same way, with a container delivered to your door for you to pack, but they solve different problems. Container removals are about the move itself: we deliver, you pack, and we transport the container to your new address, which is the right fit when you are relocating between homes or offices, including longer and interstate moves. Mobile storage is about keeping your packed belongings safe when the timing does not line up, with the container stored securely at our Landsborough yard until you need it. Many moves use a bit of both, and if you are not sure which suits your situation, tell us what you are moving and where, and we will steer you to the right service.

Why Choose Bionic for Container Removals

Bionic Storage is a locally owned and operated Sunshine Coast business with our own containers, our own tilt tray and side loader trucks, and our own secure storage yard. That means no national call centre and no third-party handlers: the same local team delivers your container, moves it and, if you need it, stores it.

Our Landsborough facility is a gated site with 24/7 CCTV surveillance, pin code access and an on-site caretaker, so a packed container held between addresses stays protected. Standard customer access to the facility is from 5:00am to 7:00pm, seven days a week, and 24-hour access can be arranged for special circumstances by prior arrangement. Rates are competitive, the service is down to earth, and the move runs on your timeline rather than a removalist’s.

Frequently Asked Questions

What are container removals?

Container removals, also called self-pack removals, are a way of moving where a shipping container is delivered to your address, you pack it yourself at your own pace, and it is transported to your new address. You do the packing, and we handle the transport. It is a flexible, cost-effective alternative to a full-service removalist.

How does a self-pack container move work with Bionic?

We deliver a container in your chosen size to your door and set it on a clear, level spot with suitable access. You pack and lock it, then call us when you are ready. We collect the container and deliver it to your new address to unpack at your leisure, or hold it securely at our Landsborough yard if your dates do not line up.

How far can you move my container?

Across the Sunshine Coast as standard, and for longer moves we transport packed containers anywhere from Mackay in the north to Newcastle in the south and as far west as Charleville. That covers most moves in and out of South East Queensland and into northern New South Wales.

What size container do you use for removals?

We offer 10ft, 20ft and 40ft containers, depending on the amount being moved, the total loaded weight and the access at both properties. A 10ft suits smaller moves and one-bedroom units, a 20ft commonly suits a two to three bedroom home, and a 40ft may suit larger homes or business relocations.

What is the difference between container removals and mobile storage?

Container removals are about relocating your belongings to a new address. Mobile storage is about storing your packed container securely at our yard when your move dates do not line up. Both use the same self-pack container, and many moves use a combination of the two.

Do I need to be there for delivery and pickup?

You will need to make sure there is clear, level access for the truck, and it helps to have someone on site to confirm where the container goes. Our side loader can place and lift 20ft and 40ft containers from the driver’s side without tilting, so precise positioning on a driveway or pad is straightforward.

How much do container removals cost?

It depends on the size, the distance of the move, and whether the container needs to be stored in between. With a self-pack move you only pay for the container transport and the hire, not a removal crew. Use our storage calculator for a quick estimate or contact the team for a quote with real numbers.
